The History
Thunderhead Perk first opened its doors on September 9th, 2005 Townsend, Tennessee:gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Our first location, some of you may remember, was in the little orange building.  We now have a  location with the Bunk House Inn, a great little motel right on the Little River,

Jaimie and Michael Matzko had a dream to bring quality, locally roasted, organic coffees to Townsend and people are loving it!  Even the espresso blend is also shade-grown, fair trade certified and organic and is also roasted by The Vienna Coffee Company,  www.viennacoffeecompany.com This blend can only be found at 'the Perk.'  Thunderhead Perk also brews and sells fresh roasted, organic, fair-trade certified, shade-grown Blue Smoke Coffee, www.bluesmokecoffee.com .  The Tremont Blend, roasted by Blue Smoke Coffee benefits the Great Smoky Mountains Institutle at Tremont www.gsmit.org an organization that teaches environmental education in a residential center for kids and adults.

So, come on by and enjoy a great cup of coffee, a real fruit smoothie or fresh-baked scone.  You can sit on our porch with your lap top and use the free wi-fi.  The gas stove is a perfect place to sip your latte on a cold morning.  Take a gourmet sack lunch into the park on a hike or drive around Cades Cove.  We truly want to be part of your experience in the Great Smoky Mountains.
